Dr. Fleckenstein is currently a Professor and Assistant Dean for Basic Science Integration for the University of Utah School of Dentistry. She is also a Professor in the Interdepartmental Program in Neuroscience at that institution.
Dr. Fleckenstein earned her B.S. and M.S. in Biomedical and Biological Sciences, respectively, from Western Michigan University. She then earned her Ph.D. from the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology at Michigan State University. After completing an Intramural Training Award postdoctoral fellowship for the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), she transitioned to the University of Utah. Dr. Fleckenstein has been a NIDA-funded researcher for over 20 years, and has over 100 publications in peer-reviewed journals. Additionally, she is a co-author on the textbook “Drugs and Society,” and a Past-President of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics.
